Great Smoky Mountains Railroad announces Railfest 2012! Headliners for Railfest 2012 include our new STEAM ENGINE, Motorcars from across America, and the local 4-H Youth Development’s "Heritage Alive!” entertainment with the ninth annual Children's Talent Show. The fun begins Friday night with a special “Wet Your Whistle” kick-off celebration train reception. The Mountain Craft Festival officially opens at 9am on Saturday (going through Sunday 4pm), offering guests wonderful handmade crafts, a taste of railroad food, memorabilia, storytelling, dance, live music, special excursions and events that happen only once a year. It is our top priority to make your experience with GSMR a truly rewarding one. We are again offering deep discounts for all vendors to ride the train from Bryson City Depot to the Nantahala Gorge on FRIDAY, Sep 14th, leaving at 10:30am, back by 3pm. Advanced reservations required. Call for details. GSMR/CSA Hospitality Booth will once again provide donuts, coffee and ice water throughout the weekend. Heritage Alive! Mountain Youth Talent Contest To showcase the musical and vocal talents of our local children, Jackson County 4-H Youth Development & CSA’s "Heritage Alive! Mountain Youth Talent Contest" will take place on the entertainment stage in the GSMR Depot area of Bryson City, NC on Saturday, September 15, 2012 during the 10th Annual Mountain Craft Show.
